God’s Work, Our Hands (GWOH)

Our GWOH work day on September 20th included both indoor and outdoor projects. The old saying “many hands make light work” was certainly appropriate as we had 19 members of the Salem family involved, putting in 33 hours of work. First, we exceeded our goal by filling seven laundry baskets with bathroom supplies for Shifting Gears. These items will be distributed to young adults transitioning out of foster care and establishing independent households. And there were plenty of extra items that can be used to help complete other donated baskets.

Then, the rain stopped and the sun came out just in time to clean out the storage shed, sorting items that could be discarded from those that could be sold at the flea market during our Fall Fair. Lots of willing hands also weeded, trimmed, and raked beautifying our church grounds. After the Fall Fair, we will plant crocus, daffodil, hyacinth, and iris bulbs so our flower beds will be full of beautiful colors at Eastertime.

After all that work, we gathered in the narthex to replenish our energy by enjoying hot dogs, salads, cookies, and ice cream. Thank you to everyone who contributed bathroom items, work, yummy food, and a sunny outlook to make GWOH such a success this year.
